What Redwood Trees Know That We've Forgotten

Redwood trees, the tallest trees on earth, don't survive because they have the deepest roots. Their roots only go about six to twelve feet into the ground. What keeps them standing is that their roots grow together. They intertwine with the trees around them, creating a network that helps them withstand storms and survive for generations.

That sounds a lot like what Scripture teaches us about community.

Ecclesiastes 4:12 says, "A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken."

We were never designed to walk through life alone.

One of the hardest parts of mental health struggles is the temptation to isolate. We can convince ourselves that we're a burden, that nobody wants to hear what we're carrying, or that we should figure it out on our own.

But that's not how God created us.

We need people who know us, support us, and remind us of truth when our own thoughts are lying to us. The strongest trees in the forest aren't the ones standing alone. They're the ones connected to everything around them.
